At bdb our mantra is that real wealth is measured in time, relationships and experiences so when we organise events we really want them to be a remarkable experience for all those involved. This is why we partnered with Opera North to organise an exclusive pop-up Opera full of extraordinary music and performance, held on Thursday 21 November 2019.

Rooted in the North of England, Opera North is one of Europe’s most important, influential and innovative centres for the arts. From bold and ambitious opera to invaluable education programmes, the Company enriches the lives of over 160,000 individuals each year.

Opera North believes opera and music is for everyone, and champions diversity in artists, repertoire and audiences. Opera North Education connects with communities and inspires each generation, aiming to enhance the health and well-being of people in local communities through arts participation and performance.

The event, hosted by bdb, was held at the stunning Bowcliffe Hall. We chose this venue for its beauty and exclusivity, and the warm lighting, chandeliers and wonderful acoustics made for a very atmospheric evening.

The intimate performance included extraordinary vocal pieces by Alexandra Oomens and Phillip Rhodes, two of the stars of Opera North’s forthcoming critically acclaimed performance of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. They were accompanied by the extremely talented artist, Martin Pickard, sat at a beautiful grand piano! Guests of bdb were treated to a number of exquisite songs which were both beautiful and emotive.

The evening was enjoyed by all and really was a remarkable experience! We’ve all heard the idiom ‘Music is good for the soul’ and I wholeheartedly agree! It has been an absolute pleasure organising this event alongside my peers at Opera North and Bowcliffe Hall and I could not have asked for a better first experience of Opera personally. The only word I could think of at the end of the evening was ‘Wow!’

Working in partnership can be transformational, and bdb are proud of the part we play in enabling Opera North to continue creating music and performance of the highest quality that is accessible to everyone.
